Man found guilty of stalking Sanna Marin again convicted for threatening another woman
A man previously convicted of stalking former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has been found guilty of stalking and threatening another woman, though he was deemed not criminally responsible due to mental incapacity, reports Yle.
The Länsi-Uusimaa District Court convicted the 37-year-old man in late April for crimes targeting his ex-wife, including repeated harassment, violating restraining orders, and making violent threats. The court ruled that he was not mentally competent at the time of the offences and therefore could not be sentenced to punishment.
Between spring and summer 2023, the man repeatedly contacted his ex-wife with unsolicited messages and calls, causing significant distress. In a separate incident, he violated her domestic peace by attempting to enter her Espoo home and refusing to leave the property despite warnings. During the confrontation, he threatened to “destroy her face,” leading to a stalking conviction.
He was also convicted of two counts of illegal threats after declaring his intent to kill the woman and her child. In March 2024, he called her dozens of times in defiance of a court-ordered ban, resulting in additional convictions for stalking and violating restraining orders.
The same man was previously convicted in February by the Helsinki District Court for stalking Marin and violating her domestic peace between November and December 2024. In that case, he was also found guilty of stalking and sexually harassing another Helsinki woman. The court determined he was partially or fully not criminally responsible for those acts.
During the Helsinki trial, the man admitted to the charges through his legal representative and apologised to his victims. He has a history of severe mental health issues.
