Extensive maintenance on Oslo’s drinking water network starting Tuesday could cause brown tap water for up to 113,000 residents in the city’s western districts, the municipal Water and Wastewater Agency announced.
The work, scheduled to last until Friday, May 8, may lead to periods of slightly discoloured water as sediment from pipe linings is dislodged, according to the agency. Affected areas include Ullern, Skøyen, Smestad, Montebello, Røa, Bygdøy, Frogner, and Majorstuen. Some households may also experience low water pressure during this period.
Residents are advised that the water remains safe to drink and use for cooking despite any discolouration. The agency recommends running cold water from the tap closest to the building’s main supply until it clears. Light-coloured laundry should be postponed until the water runs clear again.
The affected districts are home to approximately 133,000 people.
