Sales surge for used motorhomes in Sunnmøre region of Norway

Sales of used motorhomes and caravans have surged significantly in the Sunnmøre region of Norway, despite stable national trends. Kroken Ålesund, a major dealership, has sold more used vehicles this year than in all of last year. Sales manager Martin Sunde attributes this increase to the general rise in vehicle prices and the community’s desire for good value for money.

While statistics indicate a 0.38 percent decline in ownership transfers of used motorhomes and caravans across Norway, Sunnmøre has experienced nearly a 9 percent increase. Currently, Kroken Ålesund has about 70 to 80 vehicles in stock, with an impressive turnover of around 30 sales per month.

Tourists visiting Ålesund share their thoughts on this trend. Bjørn Hugo Johnsen from Alta, who has traveled extensively in his motorhome, suggests that Sunnmøre residents are known for being frugal, which may drive the popularity of purchasing used vehicles. He believes it is wise for those new to the motorhome lifestyle to start with a used option.

Gerd Gangstøy from Rødberg, on a motorhome trip with her husband, echoes a positive sentiment towards the freedom of camping life. She feels that the appeal of used vehicles is not solely due to cost but also the enjoyment of the experience.

The increased demand has prompted Kroken Ålesund to adapt, including selling vehicles for clients who prefer not to sell themselves. Sunde reassures potential buyers that there are still plenty of options available for those looking to secure a used vehicle this summer.
