Wildfire in Alver spreads near homes with high risk of expansion
A grass and heathland fire in Alver, north of Bergen, is burning with open flames and thick smoke just 20–30 metres from residential buildings, authorities report. The fire poses a significant risk of spreading further, according to Vest police district.
Operations manager Tatjana Knappen confirmed to Dagbladet that firefighters are on site, supported by a forest fire helicopter and fireboats. “There is smoke and open flames,” Knappen stated, adding that evacuations will begin once police arrive. The exact number of affected residents remains unclear.
Jostein Steinsland-Hauge, duty officer at the Vest 110 emergency centre, said fire stations from Knarvik and Manger, along with a fireboat from Bergen, have been deployed. “The fire is close to the sea, so it may be effective to use water cannons from the water side,” he explained.
