A high-profile case involving five attempted murders will be retried from the beginning in a Danish district court after the Eastern High Court rejected an appeal from prosecutors.

The decision follows a dispute over two judges in the original trial who had declared themselves inhabile—legally disqualified from hearing the case. The prosecution’s appeal to overturn this ruling was dismissed by the High Court on Tuesday, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.

Two defendants, accused of orchestrating the attempted killings in 2024, will now face a new trial. Prosecutors allege the pair arranged for young Swedish nationals to travel to Denmark to carry out four planned murders. One of the accused is additionally charged with involvement in a fifth attempted killing.

None of the attacks succeeded. Both defendants maintain their innocence.

The case will return to the district court for a full retrial, though further procedural details remain pending.
