One person dies in house fire in Merikarvia
A resident died in a detached house fire in Merikarvia, western Finland, early Friday morning, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
The single-storey home was fully engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived at the scene on Harvalantie street just after 3 a.m. The fire destroyed the building completely, according to the Satakunta Rescue Department.
Police confirmed the victim was a 29-year-old male resident of the house. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures and surrounding terrain. A total of 12 rescue units responded to the emergency call.
