Danish nature lovers can now access outdoor areas more easily thanks to a new initiative that combines public transport with nature experiences, DR reports.

A partnership between Denmark’s Nature Conservation Association and transport operator Movia has designated 22 bus stops near scenic natural areas, including Melby Overdrev in North Zealand and Ryvangens Naturpark in northern Copenhagen. Each stop features QR codes providing information on nearby nature activities.

The project aims to make it simpler for families and urban residents to explore nature using public transport. “We want to show how easy it is to take the bus to great outdoor experiences,” said Stine Sander, Movia’s director of customer relations and communication. “Buses and local trains often run directly through or near exciting natural areas.”

Schoolchildren from Øster Farimagsgade Skole in Copenhagen have already tested the initiative, using the stops to visit Ryvangens Naturpark. “We learned how to light small fires. It’s much better than the nature you find right in the city by the lakes,” said third-grade students Astrid Marie Meisner and Sofie Bistrup.

The initiative launches as spring weather encourages more outdoor activity, with organisers hoping to inspire greater use of public transport for nature trips.
