The son of prominent Norwegian diplomats Mona Juul and Terje Rød-Larsen, Edward Juul Rød-Larsen, has died at the age of 25, Dagbladet reports. His death was confirmed in Norway’s national registry on 29 April.

Juul Rød-Larsen was named in the will of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as one of two heirs to a $10 million inheritance, alongside his twin sister. The 2019 will, signed while Epstein was in custody, has since been tied up in legal disputes in the US Virgin Islands, with uncertainties over whether the funds would ever be disbursed, according to US broadcaster ABC News.

Norwegian police have informed Dagbladet that Juul Rød-Larsen died by suicide in Oslo this week. His immediate family has been notified. He had previously been registered as a resident in the United Arab Emirates.

Juul Rød-Larsen’s parents, both high-profile diplomats, have faced recent legal scrutiny. His father, Terje Rød-Larsen, is under investigation by Norway’s National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (Økokrim) for alleged complicity in gross corruption. His mother, Mona Juul, is also under investigation for gross corruption. In February, Norwegian authorities searched the family’s Oslo apartment as part of the probe while Rød-Larsen was in Abu Dhabi.

The twins, born to Juul and Rød-Larsen in 1999, were dubbed the “peace twins” by Norwegian media due to their parents’ roles in brokering the Oslo Accords in the 1990s. At the time of their birth, Rød-Larsen served as a UN under-secretary-general, while Juul was a state secretary in Norway’s foreign ministry.

Juul Rød-Larsen’s name appeared multiple times in documents released as part of the Epstein case. Emails obtained by Dagbladet show extensive correspondence between him, his father, and Epstein regarding his application to New York University. Juul Rød-Larsen never publicly commented on his connection to Epstein.
