Viking ship to be built in Drelnes instead of Hov

Plans to construct a Viking ship in Hov have been abandoned, with the project now moving to Drelnes near the cultural centre Salti, *Kringvarp Føroya* reports. The project, estimated to cost 30–40 million Danish kroner, will follow the design of Norway’s Gokstad ship.

The initiative, led by the association *Víkingaskip*, has been in development for over a decade. The group originally intended to build the vessel in Hov but shifted to Drelnes after facing challenges. The ship will be modelled after the 23.8-metre-long Gokstad ship, discovered in Norway in 1880.

In addition to the ship, the project includes a boathouse, workshop, and visitor facilities near Krambatang, where Smyril Line operates. Annika Hvanngarð, a board member of *Víkingaskip*, discussed the plans in a recent interview with *Radio Salt*.
