Plans for 84 apartments north of Faroese national broadcaster approved for review
Tórshavn city council will decide Thursday on a proposal to amend building permits for the Meirilutin area, following a recommendation from the municipal planning committee, Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The revised plan calls for 84 apartments across eight buildings—each two or three storeys tall—along with a community centre on an 11,000 m² plot adjacent to a protected woodland and near the Nordic House. The site, provisionally named Ternutún, was originally zoned in 2011 for 18 single-family homes.
A private landowner applied to modify the special building permit, arguing apartments would be more practical than detached houses. The planning committee has backed the change, citing the site’s proximity to cultural institutions and green space.
The council’s decision comes after earlier proposals scaled back from 96 to 84 units.
