Faroese carpentry apprentice becomes youngest Sandoy representative in parliament
The Faroe Islands’ newly elected parliament now includes 24-year-old Kristian Krog Hentze av Sandi, a carpentry apprentice who has become the first representative from the island of Sandoy in years, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
Hentze, the sole candidate from Sandoy for the conservative Fólkaflokkurin party, secured 297 votes in the recent election, placing him 12th on his party’s list. He is among the youngest members of the new parliament, known as the Løgting.
“It’s something completely different being a parliamentarian than being a carpenter,” Hentze told KVF, reflecting on his transition from trade work to politics.
His election marks the first time in over a decade that Sandoy, one of the Faroe Islands’ smaller communities, has had direct representation in the national legislature.
