The fate of the wind turbines in Húsahaga on the Faroe Islands is still unclear, with one proposal involving replacing the existing 13 turbines with four larger ones, Faroese Broadcasting Corporation (KVF) reports.

The wind energy cooperative in Húsahaga is considering dismantling the 13 older turbines and installing four new, larger models in their place, according to Bogi Bech Jensen, chair of the cooperative’s board. The project is estimated to cost around 130 million Danish kroner (approximately €17.5 million).

Financial reports from last year show ongoing uncertainty about the operation’s future. The cooperative recorded a negative equity of 29.4 million kroner, with debt totalling 30.7 million kroner. The Faroese energy company SEV has agreed to provide emergency financial relief this year while a long-term solution is developed, expected by 2026.

The turbines currently stand idle as discussions continue.
