Strong earthquake shakes eastern Norway
A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Norway on Sunday morning, rattling homes across a wide area and prompting hundreds of reports to authorities, according to Dagbladet.
The quake hit at approximately 09:25 local time, with its epicentre near Neskollen in Nes municipality, Akershus, northeast of Oslo. The European Seismological Service received 2,435 reports of tremors from the region.
Residents described intense shaking, with one witness telling Dagbladet, “The whole bed shook like hell. I thought the building was going to collapse.” Another said, “I heard a loud crash, then the house made a high-pitched noise. I thought it was the apocalypse.”
Oslo Police confirmed no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage, though emergency services were placed on alert. The tremor was felt as far south as Skien, west to Kongsberg, and north to Toten, covering an area home to roughly three million people.
Seismologists at Norsar are analysing data to provide further updates on the event.
