Armed man fires shots near gala dinner attended by Trump

A gunman attempted to force his way into the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington on Saturday night, firing multiple shots before being apprehended by security, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports. Former US president Donald Trump, who was attending the event, was swiftly evacuated by his protective detail.

SVT’s US correspondents Sofia Yohannes and Carl Fridh Kleberg described taking cover under tables as the shooting unfolded. Trump later shared surveillance footage on Truth Social showing the suspect rushing into the venue.

No injuries have been confirmed in the initial reports.
