Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson sees rise in trust after party’s shift on Sweden Democrats
A new opinion poll shows Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson’s trust ratings have risen significantly among voters, particularly those supporting the centre-right “Tidö” coalition, following her party’s policy shift toward cooperation with the Sweden Democrats, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.
Nine percent of respondents now say they have “quite a lot” or “very high” trust in Mohamsson, up from six percent in March, according to polling firm Verian. The increase is statistically significant. Support among her own party’s voters has also grown, with 69 percent now expressing trust in her leadership, compared to 57 percent previously.
However, the poll also reveals a polarised picture: 61 percent of respondents report having “very little” or “quite little” trust in Mohamsson, up from 56 percent in the last survey. The share of undecided voters has declined.
Per Söderpalm, head of opinion at Verian, noted that while Mohamsson’s trust has risen among Sweden Democrat, Moderate, and Christian Democrat voters, she has lost ground with opposition voters. “This shows some potential for the party among Tidö voters, but it may become harder to attract voters from the red-green bloc,” he said.
In the overall ranking of party leaders’ trust, Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson remains highest at 44 percent, followed by Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson at 37 percent. Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Åkesson and Christian Democrat leader Ebba Busch share third place with 31 percent each. Mohamsson’s nine percent places her ahead of only the Green Party’s Daniel Helldén (8 percent) and Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist (7 percent).
The survey was conducted between 13–15 April 2026, based on around 1,000 web interviews with randomly selected participants aged 18–84.
