Major overhaul planned for Lágargarður fire alarm system this year

The fire alarm system at Lágargarður in Tórshavn will undergo a complete replacement this year, according to a report by Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya. The nearly 40-year-old system has become unreliable in recent times, leaving residents feeling unsafe.

Johan Syderbø, head of the construction department at Tórshavn Municipality, confirmed the upgrade. The project is expected to cost around 1.2 million Danish kroner, while a separate alarm system replacement at Tjarnargarður will cost 800,000 kroner.

The current system’s instability has raised concerns among local residents about fire safety in the area.
