New app compares grocery prices to help Faroese shoppers save money
A new digital tool called Prísvøka allows consumers in the Faroe Islands to scan and compare receipts from different stores to find the best prices on groceries, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The app, developed by Kristian Eli Zachariasen, lets users upload receipts to a central database, which then tracks product prices across multiple retailers. Shoppers can check where items are cheapest before making purchases.
Zachariasen told KVF he was inspired by his own habit of leaving receipts on the table and wondering if he could have saved money by shopping elsewhere. “I often think: Okay, I’ve shopped at one store today, but how much could I have saved if I’d bought these items where they’re cheapest?” he said.
With many stores and an even larger variety of products in the Faroe Islands, the developer hopes the tool will help consumers make more informed—and cost-effective—choices. The Prísvøka platform is now available online.
