Rent increase at Faroese student housing put on hold

The Faroese government has halted planned rent increases at Skúlaheimið, a student housing complex in Tórshavn, until a decision is made on its future management, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Education Minister Bárður á Lakjuni confirmed that tenants will not face higher rents for now, despite the property manager Glasir’s announcement of planned increases in August and January. The planned hike would have totalled 1,000 DKK per tenant.

Á Lakjuni stated that the government must first assess how the facility should be operated moving forward. He acknowledged financial constraints but suggested Glasir should seek alternative funding rather than raising rents.

Skúlaheimið is a key student accommodation provider in the Faroe Islands’ capital.
