Faroese union criticises government plan to raise fuel tax
The Faroese Union of Nurses and Midwives (FNU) has condemned the government’s proposal to increase the fuel tax, calling it a “short-sighted solution” that fails to support a transition to greener alternatives.
Deputy chair Birita F. Kjærbæk told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya that the government should instead use the revenue to help people switch to more sustainable transport options. The tax hike, set to apply to petrol and diesel until 31 July, was announced by Finance Minister Aksel V. Johannesen.
“The government should be using these funds to assist people in moving towards green solutions,” Kjærbæk said.
