Rent increase at Faroese student housing postponed
A planned rent increase at Skúlaheimið, a student housing complex in Tórshavn, has been put on hold pending a decision on the building’s future management, Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Bárður á Lakjuni, the Faroese minister of education, confirmed that tenants will not face higher rents before a solution is found. The housing provider, Glasir, had announced plans to raise rents by 1,000 DKK in August and again in January, citing financial constraints.
Á Lakjuni acknowledged Glasir’s budgetary challenges but stated that alternative funding must be secured before any increase is implemented. The minister did not specify when a final decision on the housing’s future would be made.
Skúlaheimið, located in the Marknagil district of Tórshavn, provides accommodation primarily for students.
