Finland’s timber harvest slightly declined last year, reports Natural Resources Institute
Finland harvested just over 74 million cubic metres of stemwood in 2023, a 1 percent decrease from the previous year, according to the country’s Natural Resources Institute (Luke).
While timber cut for forest industry use saw a slight increase, the volume harvested for energy production fell by 8 percent. Over half of the energy wood went to firewood for detached houses, with the remainder used as raw material for wood chips in energy plants.
The total growing stock of Finnish forests grew by 13 million cubic metres over the year.
