Violent crimes reported to police increased in early 2024 in Finland
Violent crimes, including homicides and assaults, rose in Finland during the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2023, according to new data from Statistics Finland’s crime and coercive measures report.
Police recorded 23 homicides—including murders, manslaughters, and infanticides—between January and March. Attempted homicides reached 122 cases, the highest number since the statistics were first compiled. The figure marks a one-third increase from the same period last year.
The report also shows a rise in reported assaults compared to early 2023.
