A large-scale power outage in the Finnish city of Oulu has left 4,423 households without electricity since late Wednesday afternoon, according to the sahkokatkokartta.fi service, as reported by national broadcaster Yle.

Strong winds have been recorded across central Finland, Northern Ostrobothnia, and Kainuu, contributing to the disruption. Smaller outages have also been reported elsewhere in Northern Ostrobothnia.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute warned of powerful wind gusts spreading to central regions in the afternoon and later to southern Finland, with storm-force winds in some areas. Northern and eastern regions may also experience snow or rain showers. Conditions are expected to calm overnight, with clearer weather forecast.

Yle noted that the story will be updated as more information becomes available.
