Major fire breaks out in Oslo apartment building
A major fire is burning in an apartment building in Oslo’s Majorstua district, with emergency services warning of potential spread, Dagbladet reports.
The blaze, which broke out Wednesday morning in a second-floor unit of an older building, has prompted a full evacuation. No injuries have been reported, but authorities are assessing whether neighbouring buildings must also be cleared.
Firefighters have deployed smoke divers to combat the flames, which are concentrated in the ceiling of a commercial space occupied by the tanning salon chain Brun og Blid. An automatic fire alarm triggered the emergency response, with witnesses also reporting the smell of smoke.
The street has been closed to traffic, halting tram services as overhead power lines must be cut to allow firefighting access. Residents in the area are advised to keep windows closed and turn off air conditioning due to heavy smoke.
