Two NATO warships arrive in Turku for maintenance and resupply
Two large NATO warships will dock in the Finnish port of Turku on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Finnish Navy. The vessels, currently operating in Finland’s nearby waters, are arriving for maintenance and to restock supplies.
The ships belong to NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) task force. The group includes the German air-defence frigate FGS Sachsen, the flagship of the unit, and the Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida, specialised in anti-submarine and air-defence operations.
The FGS Sachsen, measuring 143 metres in length and 17 metres in width, carries a crew of approximately 230. The NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida is 122 metres long and 14 metres wide, with a crew of around 160.
The Finnish Navy confirmed that the vessels will not be open to the public during their stay in Turku.
