Faroese vocational students face rent hike at Skúlaheimi dormitory
Vocational school students in the Faroe Islands will see their rent at the Skúlaheimi dormitory in Marknagil, Tórshavn, increase by 1,000 krona, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The rent rise, split into two 500-krona increments in August and January, comes as part of cost-cutting measures at the facility. Unlike university students, whose housing grants will also increase, vocational students under 18 will receive no additional financial support.
The move has raised concerns about affordability, with reports indicating students are already leaving the dormitory due to financial strain. The future of Skúlaheimi remains uncertain amid ongoing budget pressures.
