Two young researchers have proposed a scientific solution to revive Denmark’s degraded Vejlefjord, presenting their project at the national Unge Forskere (Young Researchers) competition, the country’s largest science contest for school and high school students.

Maddox and Kristian advanced to the semifinals of the competition, where their environmental restoration plan was evaluated alongside other student-led initiatives tackling future challenges. Their work focuses on addressing ecological decline in the fjord, though specific details of their proposed methods were not outlined in the report.

The duo will be featured in Forskerfesten 2026 (Researchers’ Celebration 2026), a broadcast by Danish public broadcaster DR, airing Friday at 8 PM local time. The programme highlights innovative projects from the competition, showcasing young scientists’ contributions to problem-solving in fields like environmental conservation.

Unge Forskere encourages students to develop practical solutions to real-world issues, with this year’s entries spanning climate, technology, and sustainability. The semifinalists were selected from submissions across Danish schools.
