Teenager arrested in Seinäjoki on suspicion of aggravated robbery
A 16-year-old boy has been remanded in custody by South Ostrobothnia District Court on suspicion of aggravated robbery following a court order on Tuesday, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
The alleged crime took place in a parking garage in central Seinäjoki on April 10. Police have not disclosed further details about the incident or the investigation.
The Ostrobothnia Police Department requested the detention, citing multiple suspected offenses committed by the teenager within a short period. Detective Chief Inspector Tiina Sillanpää, leading the investigation, confirmed that remanding a minor in custody is rare but stressed the need for early intervention in such cases.
“This involves a situation where a minor has become suspected of several offenses in a short time,” Sillanpää said. She declined to comment further, as the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
Authorities aim to address such cases promptly through collaboration with relevant agencies.
