Faroe Islands to hold public conference on legalising assisted dying
A public conference on assisted dying will be held in the Faroe Islands on 22 April, organised by the country’s Ethics Council, Medical Ethics Council, and the Ethics Committee of Psychologists, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Assisted dying remains prohibited under Faroese law, but growing debate in neighbouring countries has made the issue increasingly relevant. The event will feature experts in philosophy, law, medicine, and theology addressing the ethical and practical challenges of legalisation.
The conference, titled “Ráðstevna um virkna deyðshjálp” (Conference on Active Assisted Dying), will take place at Løkshøll in Tórshavn from 09:00 and is open to the public. Organisers aim to provide a factual and interdisciplinary discussion on the topic.
