Finland’s annual reading week begins with focus on learning to read
Finland’s national reading week kicks off today, with this year’s theme centred on learning to read, reports public broadcaster Yle, citing news agency STT.
The event, organised by the Finnish Reading Centre, celebrates literacy and highlights how all children in Finland have the opportunity to learn to read. Organisers emphasise that reading skills continue to develop throughout life when nurtured.
As part of the week, the Periodical Media Association is hosting a magazine week, offering free digital access to children’s and youth publications. Participating titles include Aku Ankka (Donald Duck), Bamse, Hevoshullu (Horse Crazy), and Koululainen (The Schoolchild).
