Temperatures to drop sharply in Finland by midweek

Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports that warm and sunny weather will give way to colder conditions by Wednesday, with temperatures falling by up to 10 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Anne Borgström told Yle that gusty northern winds will bring clouds and light rain, particularly to northern and eastern Finland. In Lapland, precipitation may briefly turn to snow, though it is expected to melt quickly. “This isn’t a return to winter,” Borgström clarified, “but a noticeable cooldown.”

After midweek, daytime highs of 15°C will be replaced by more typical spring temperatures of 5–10°C, with northernmost Lapland seeing readings near freezing. The shift reflects broader changes in large-scale weather patterns, though local forecasts remain uncertain.

Looking ahead to May Day (Vappu) celebrations, Borgström noted that scattered showers are likely somewhere in Finland, with temperatures again hovering between 5–10°C. While April’s final days appear more unstable than its start, precise predictions are not yet possible.
