Fire breaks out in Helsinki apartment building sauna
A fire erupted in the sauna of a residential building in Helsinki’s Kannelmäki district on Friday afternoon, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.
Emergency services received an alert at around 4:40 PM local time regarding a blaze at a property on Sitratie street. Firefighters, paramedics, police, and social crisis response teams were dispatched to the scene, with 11 fire units attending.
Two individuals sustained injuries and were transferred for medical assessment, according to rescue authorities. Witnesses told Yle that a large crowd had gathered outside the building at Sitratie 3 as smoke billowed from the roof.
Firefighting and rescue operations remain ongoing.
