Driver suspected of endangering traffic safety and manslaughter in fatal Mynämäki intersection crash
The Southwest Finland Police have completed their preliminary investigation into an October collision in Mynämäki that killed a small child, and the truck driver involved now faces charges of endangering traffic safety and manslaughter, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Jussilantie and Keskuskatu in Mynämäki’s town centre. A child riding a bicycle was struck and fatally crushed under the wheels of a turning truck.
Investigators initially examined the case as a potential instance of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and manslaughter. However, the charges were later reduced.
“The classification was adjusted because the investigation did not uncover evidence that the driver acted with intent or gross negligence, despite the severe outcome,” said lead investigator Tuomas Järvenpää in a statement.
The case will now proceed to prosecution review.
