The Finnish parliament will vote today on whether to maintain confidence in Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s centre-right government, following an opposition-led debate on rising poverty and living costs, reports national broadcaster Yle.

The vote comes after the government responded to an interpellation—submitted last week by the Left Alliance, Green League, and Social Democratic Party—accusing Orpo’s administration of deepening poverty through failed employment policies and extensive cuts to social welfare.

Opposition lawmakers argue that the government’s measures have worsened financial hardship, particularly as inflation and cost-of-living pressures persist. The confidence vote is a standard procedural step following such interpellations.

Earlier this week, Orpo dismissed the opposition’s criticism, stating in parliament that their claims were “detached from reality.”
