Faroese government forecasts 63 million krona deficit in 2027 budget
The Faroese government’s preliminary budget estimates for 2027 show a deficit of 63 million krona, Finance Minister Aksel V. Johannesen confirmed in an interview with public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The projections, presented earlier than usual, also allocate 600 million krona for tax adjustments. According to Johannesen, the early submission aligns with Article 8 of the national budget law, which requires the finance minister to propose a consolidated budget framework for parliamentary approval by 1 April each year.
This practice has been followed annually since 2009, except in 2019, when the budget proposal failed to advance from committee review, and again this year due to early elections.
