A petrol station in Joutseno, Lappeenranta, temporarily raised the price of 95-octane fuel to €3 per litre on Thursday morning due to a supply delay, public broadcaster Yle reports.

The SEO service station on Veteraaninkatu increased the price after facing potential shortages of the fuel grade. Station attendant Aki Silvennoinen told Yle the measure was intended to discourage customers from purchasing the limited stock while awaiting a delayed delivery.

“This wasn’t a typing error—those happen sometimes—but a deliberate decision,” Silvennoinen said. As compensation, the station lowered the price of 98-octane fuel slightly. The 95-octane price returned to approximately €2.09 per litre by Thursday afternoon.

Despite the brief surge, several hundred litres were sold at the €3 rate. Silvennoinen noted he could not recall the last time prices had reached such levels at the station. The incident was first reported by Finnish tabloid Iltalehti.

Nationwide, Finnish 95-octane prices exceeded €2 per litre in March, partly due to conflicts in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Silvennoinen clarified that Thursday’s local spike was unrelated to global factors.
