Queen Margrethe celebrated with concert as crowds gather at Fredensborg Palace
Queen Margrethe of Denmark turned 86 on Thursday, marked by a celebratory concert by the Royal Life Guards’ Band in the inner courtyard of Fredensborg Palace, state broadcaster DR reports.
Hundreds of well-wishers gathered to congratulate the monarch, who greeted the crowd from the palace’s main staircase. She attended the performance alongside Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, as well as her sister, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece.
The event drew large numbers of citizens, some of whom had walked long distances to participate. One attendee told DR, “We walked 10 kilometres just to be here.”
