European Parliament president says Hungary’s election shows people ‘chose Europe’

Hungary’s weekend election result is a “glimmer of hope” in a world darkened by war and uncertainty, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said in Helsinki on Tuesday.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Paasikivi Society, Metsola stated that Hungarian voters had “chosen Europe” from the available options. She added that the European Union must now prove itself worthy of that trust.

Metsola is on an official visit to Finland, where she is scheduled to meet President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
