Finnish TV show seeks creative and eco-friendly garden ideas from viewers
Finnish public broadcaster Yle is calling on gardeners and DIY enthusiasts to submit their most inventive and sustainable outdoor projects for a chance to be featured on the popular evening show Puoli seitsemän (“Half Past Six”).
The show is embracing the global trend of “upside-down gardening”—a space-saving method where plants like tomatoes, flowers, and herbs grow in hanging containers—but is pushing the concept further. Proposals should reimagine traditional garden elements or repurpose discarded items in unexpected ways, whether through woodworking, crafting, or other hands-on techniques.
Participants must submit their ideas, including clear instructions and a hand-drawn or photographed illustration, by May 1, 2026. Three winning designs will be built in the show’s garden and revealed during the final broadcast week of the spring season, from May 11–13, 2026.
Entries can be sent via email to [email protected] or by post to: Yleisradio / Logistiikkakeskus Puoli seitsemän / Helena Lappeteläinen, PL 56, 00024 Yleisradio. Submissions should include the creator’s name, contact details (for editorial use only), and a description of the idea’s origins and reception.
The initiative follows journalist Helena Lappeteläinen’s recent transformation of a standard birdhouse, part of the show’s ongoing effort to inspire eco-conscious creativity in everyday spaces.
