Finnish food company Apetit will shut down its frozen pizza production plant in Pudasjärvi, the world’s northernmost pizza factory, by the end of 2026, the firm announced on Monday.

The closure follows restructuring negotiations prompted by declining sales of frozen pizzas. The factory, where all of Apetit’s pizzas are currently produced, employs 21 permanent staff, whose positions will be terminated when operations cease.

Apetit CEO Esa Mäki stated that the company will support affected employees in retraining and finding new roles, including potential transfers to other Apetit production sites. Future pizza manufacturing will shift to contract production within Finland, beginning in 2026.

The news was first reported by Finnish newspaper Kaleva.
