Man stabbed from behind in unprovoked attack in Oulu
Police in Oulu are searching for a suspect after a pedestrian was stabbed in the upper body from behind in an unprovoked attack on Tuesday evening, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
The victim, described by police as having a foreign background, was attacked around 8 PM in a park near Kajaanintie in the Raksila district. Authorities confirmed the incident but stated there is currently no evidence to suggest the assault was racially motivated.
According to police communications chief Tero Väyrynen, the victim and the attacker had no prior contact, and the assault came without warning. The suspect approached the victim from behind on a bicycle before fleeing the scene toward Ouluhalli.
The suspect remains at large. Police described him as a younger man wearing a dark beige jacket and riding a traditional narrow-tire men’s bicycle. Authorities have appealed to the public for information that could lead to his identification.
The victim has been interviewed by police, but no arrests have been made.
