The popular Faroese nature programme Sært tú fuglin? will premiere its third season on Thursday, 16 April, with hosts Silas Olofson, Tróndur Olsen, and Hallur E. Thomsen once again tracking the islands’ birdlife, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

The trio—joined by photographer Thomsen—will document migratory birds in spring and autumn, winter species, and a dedicated expedition to observe seabirds and marine life aboard a vessel on the Faroe Bank. This season introduces new filming locations and previously unexplored nesting sites.

“We’ve focused on uncovering new bird species and visiting places we’ve never been before,” said Olofson. “There’s plenty of fresh material to see.”

Olsen added that the show’s core mission remains unchanged: “We want to highlight the birds around us—some right outside our doors—that people might not even know exist. Silas’s footage lets us experience them up close, even when they’d normally fly away.”

Highlights from filming included spotting a rare bird while driving at 80 km/h, an encounter with a fearless great tit in Rituvík, and a close flyby from a white-tailed eagle on Vatnsoyrar. A stormy shoot in Suðuroy unexpectedly cleared to reveal “all kinds of exciting events,” Olsen recalled.

The team also emphasised the unpredictable role of weather and seasons in shaping each episode. “Beyond the birds, we see so much else—seals, whales, fish, sunsets—while searching,” Olsen noted.

Olofson expressed hope that the series will inspire viewers: “We want people to be captivated by the birds and nature, and maybe feel encouraged to go out, appreciate it, and help protect it.”

The first episode of Sært tú fuglin? III airs on Faroese national broadcaster KVF at 19:30 on 16 April, with repeats available on the KVF Sjón streaming platform.
