A long-standing debate over what it means to be Danish has resurfaced, with a member of the Citizens’ Party (Borgernes Parti) arguing that Danish identity is tied to blood, genes, and biology, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.

The discussion, which traditionally centred on cultural markers such as supporting the national football team, eating pork, or sharing Danish values, has taken a new direction in recent weeks. Some on the political right now frame Danishness in explicitly biological terms.

The debate follows recent statements from within the Citizens’ Party, a right-wing political group in Denmark.
