Faroe Islands’ Eysturoy Tunnel reopens after traffic incident
The Eysturoy Tunnel in the Faroe Islands has reopened to traffic, the tunnel operator announced Wednesday, following an earlier incident that forced its closure.
According to a statement on the operator’s website, the subsea tunnel—connecting the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy—was blocked after a traffic disruption late in the day. No further details about the incident were provided.
The 11.2-kilometre Eysturoy Tunnel, opened in 2020, is one of the Faroe Islands’ key infrastructure projects, reducing travel time between the two islands from over an hour to just 16 minutes.
