Traffic accident closes Eysturoy Tunnel between Faroe Islands’ main islands

The Eysturoy Tunnel, connecting the Faroese islands of Eysturoy and Streymoy, has been closed following a traffic accident, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Authorities have not yet released details about the incident but are directing drivers to use the older overland route between the islands while the tunnel remains shut, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The tunnel, one of the Faroe Islands’ key infrastructure links, is expected to remain closed until further notice.
