Greenland’s largest southern hotel closes, leaving airport town nearly abandoned
The largest hotel in South Greenland has permanently closed its doors, marking the latest blow to the struggling airport town of Narsarsuaq, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.
Staff have cleared out offices and emptied storage facilities as the hotel shuts down operations. The closure is expected to accelerate the town’s depopulation, leaving it nearly deserted.
Narsarsuaq, a small settlement built around an international airport, has faced economic challenges in recent years, with declining visitor numbers and reduced air traffic.
