Eyðun Mohr Hansen has been named director-general of the Faroese Almanna- og bústaðarmál (Social and Housing Affairs Agency), returning to the role after the new government reduced the number of ministries, Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, as the newly elected government assumes office. Hansen, a trained political scientist with extensive experience as both a department head and director-general, will take up the position immediately, according to the statement.

His reappointment follows the government’s December 1 decision to consolidate nine ministries into six, eliminating Hansen’s previous director-general role. The new cabinet has now reversed that policy, reinstating the position.

Other director-general appointments include Pól Egholm (Labour Affairs), Poul Geert Hansen (Cultural Affairs), Herálvur Joensen (Foreign and Fisheries Affairs), Bjarni Askham Bjarnason (Finance), and Bjørgfríð Ludvig (Health and Energy). Margit Stórá will oversee the Social and Housing Affairs Agency.
