Faroe Islands’ youngest prime minister receives keys to government headquarters
Beinir Johannesen, the Faroe Islands’ youngest prime minister in history, was formally handed the keys to Tinganes, the government headquarters in Tórshavn, on Monday, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The 40-year-old took over the symbolic keys from his cousin, outgoing Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen, in a ceremony marking the transition of power to the new government formed after the 2026 general election.
Photos from the event show Johannesen receiving the keys outside the historic wooden buildings of Tinganes, the seat of the Faroese government since the 16th century.
