Faroese prime minister receives keys and flowers in ceremonial handover

The Faroe Islands’ new prime minister, Beinir Johannesen, was formally handed the keys to the government headquarters *Tinganes* on Monday in a ceremonial transfer from his predecessor, Aksel V. Johannesen, reports Faroese broadcaster *Kringvarp Føroya*.

During the event marking the inauguration of the new government, Aksel V. Johannesen symbolically passed the keys to his nephew Beinir with the words: *”Use them to unlock and lock up when needed. I hope you’ll keep the doors of Tinganes open.”*

As Beinir Johannesen stepped outside the building—his workplace for the next four years—he was presented with a bouquet of flowers, which he then gave to his wife.
