Faroese prime minister receives keys and flowers in ceremonial handover

The Faroe Islands’ new prime minister, Beinir Johannesen, was formally handed the keys to the government headquarters Tinganes on Monday in a ceremonial transfer from his predecessor, Aksel V. Johannesen, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

During the event marking the inauguration of the new government, Aksel V. Johannesen symbolically passed the keys to his nephew Beinir with the words: “Use them to unlock and lock up when needed. I hope you’ll keep the doors of Tinganes open.”

As Beinir Johannesen stepped outside the building—his workplace for the next four years—he was presented with a bouquet of flowers, which he then gave to his wife.
