Jazzhus Montmartre faces shutdown after Danish Arts Council denies funding in Copenhagen
Jazzhus Montmartre in central Copenhagen is on the verge of shutting down after the Danish Arts Council decided not to provide funding for the jazz venue as a regional performance space over the next four years. While the City of Copenhagen had planned to increase its financial support by half a million kroner, this amount has proven insufficient.
As a result, Montmartre is forced to cancel all scheduled concerts for the fall, terminate staff, and send volunteers home. Despite the dire situation, the jazz house is determined to fight for its survival.
“We are in discussions with the City of Copenhagen, various foundations, and individuals who have a history of supporting serious art. However, we only have two months,” stated Michael Christiansen, Chairman of the Board at Montmartre.
